How Often Is End-of-Life Care in the United States Inconsistent with Patients' Goals of Care? A new article in the Journal of Palliative Medicine determined it is 13% of the time. Based on the annual number of US decedents, that means perhaps 325,000 patients get end-of-life care inconsistent with their goals of care. Most of that is unwanted over-treatment.
